The legal industry is a very hard industry in which to earn a living. Lots of education is required and people looking for jobs in this profession generally have to put in many hours as well. However, one thing that is nice about getting a law degree is that once it is gained, there are lots of career opportunities everywhere that become available. One could be a divorce attorney or a divorce lawyer, or if the degree holder wanted to somewhat stray away from the legal path then there are lots of other options that are open as well.
One potential career for somebody who has a law degree is to become a talent agent or sports agent. An agent offers various services for their client including negotiating all the legal nuances of their contracts, which is of course where the law degree would come in handy. Typically an agent will make money when the client earns their living, as a percentage of the talent’s contract. While this may sound like a great way to live an aspiring talent agent must take into account the fact that there are very few famous people in the world and the odds of being one of their agents are very slim. Also, most entertainment contracts really are not worth that much so there is not much guaranteed income in the industry either.
Another potential career path for a person that has earned a law degree is elected office. Many politicians, today were previously trial attorneys who gained a good standing in that line of work before moving on. Before he became a senator for example, John Edwards used to be a prosecutor in North Carolina. There are many other examples of politicians with law degrees too, as it is fairly common. Starting out in politics the person would probably have to start out in a small job, even with a law degree, and work their way up in the field. For those without patience and a willingness to do small jobs before moving on to more important and better things, this may not be the best way to go.
Finally a person with a law degree can open up their own practice. While working from their own practice a person can set their own hours and decide exactly who to work with, as opposed to corporate law where they are forced to work for their corporation and do what they are told. The compensation for somebody who has their own law practice can vary greatly from case to case. Based on their standing in the legal community, who they represent and other variables a person with their own law practice can either be doing very well or just getting by.
Having a law degree, can be a great thing for a student’s future. With this advanced degree, people can pick and choose a multitude of career options that wouldn’t necessarily be available to people without a law degree. Therefore, the degree can really help people going forward in life.
