Mexican state oil company Pemex reported a US$44.3mn trade surplus in petrochemical products in 1Q11 compared with a surplus of US$15.4mn in the prior-year quarter.
Exports in the first quarter totaled US$72.4mn and imports US$28.1mn versus US$45.7mn and US$30.3mn respectively in 1Q10, according to statistics on the company’s website.
In March, the company registered a petrochemicals trade surplus of US$12.9mn compared with a surplus of US$3.3mn in the same month last year. March exports summed US$21.4mn and imports US$8.5mn versus US$11.8mn and US$8.5mn in the prior-year month.
VOLUMES
Pemex exported 128,700t and imported 32,600t of petrochemicals in the first quarter, down from 167,400t and 55,900t respectively in 1Q10.
March exports totaled 40,700t and imports 8,100t compared with 36,400t and 18,200t in March last year.
Pemex’s petrochemicals arm is called PPQ.
